EZ-QC (Operations #12) Alternate Part Reasons

Purpose
This card displays the reasons why alternate parts were selected, categorized by issue type. It helps managers identify patterns in why parts are being swapped out—whether due to damage, missing inventory, or other errors—and highlights areas where operational improvements could reduce lost sales or rework.

Key Metrics

  • Broken / Hidden Damage – Count of parts replaced because they were unusable after pull.

  • Missing – Orders where the listed part could not be located.

  • Better Option – Cases where a different part was chosen, even though the original part was available.

  • Inventory Error / Wrong ID – Orders affected by cataloging mistakes or mismatched part IDs.

  • N/A – Other uncategorized reasons captured in the system.

  • Parts Sold (Sum) – Total number of alternate part selections represented by each reason.

Insights to Look For

  • Operational impact: By lowering avoidable alternates, yards can cut wasted labor, protect customer trust, and boost conversion rates.
